6 Tips to Renovate Your Bathroom on a Budget

Your bathroom, a crucial part of your home, warrants essential updates and upkeep following prolonged use. While remodeling might seem financially burdensome, it doesn’t necessarily have to strain your wallet. There are affordable and manageable methods to refresh your bathroom, and the best part is, you can undertake these improvements yourself! Despite often being one of the smaller spaces in a house, refurbishing a bathroom can come with a hefty price tag. However, we’ve got some tips for you on how to fashion a chic and inviting bathroom to unwind in.

1.  Do not change the layout

The first thing you need to keep in mind is to not change the layout. If you decide to move the position of the toilet, shower, bathtub, or sink, it will add to the cost of renovation. When you change the layout, it means you will have to re-arrange the plumbing services, consider new waterproofing and retile the surfaces. This can add up to the cost very quickly. Hence, when you keep the layout the same, it will save you a lot of time and cost. You must keep the bathroom layout as it is but you can upgrade the shower screen and toilet. This can have a huge impact without incurring a high cost of new waterproofing or retiling.

2.  Upgrade the fittings and fixtures

If you want to transform the bathroom instantly and easily, upgrade the fixtures and fittings. It will change the look and feel of the space without having to pay for any structural changes. You can make the necessary changes like replacing your bathroom sink filter once in a while. If you are changing the fittings and fixtures, you can move any that are fastened to the plaster wall. All you need to do is patch over the hole and insert the new fixture to the right position. It is ideal for holders, hooks, or when you want to add towel rails.

3.  Repaint

When it comes to the bathroom, tiles are an important part and the pattern, color, and texture will have a huge impact on the aesthetics of the space. So, if you want to change the tiles but do not want to buy and lay new ones, you can consider re-paint. This will help save on the cost of labor and you can have new tiles by simply repainting on the existing surface. You can also find several affordable tiles that work best for your bathroom but if you do not have the budget, consider re-painting. Do your research and ensure that you use the type of paint that is suitable for tiles.

4.  Transform the cabinets

Avoid spending money on the installation of new bathroom vanity and instead, try to update the current one. You can pick a color that works with the theme of your bathroom and ensure that you check the material of the cabinet before you paint them. Different materials will require a different type of coverage and treatment.

5.  Freshen caulk and grout

Caulk and grout are essential but overlooked aspects of the bathroom. The tiles in your bathroom are resistant to the grime and dust but the grout is porous and can absorb both. When the stain settles, it will make the tiles look dirty and they will look the same even if you clean them a lot of times. A thorough cleaning will fix the problem but if grime and dirt have made a home in the tiles, you will have to give them a new caulk and grout. The cost of caulking and grouting is not a lot and will be less than replacing the fixtures in the bathroom. Additionally, it will help the tiles last longer.

6.  Splurge on light fixtures

The easiest way to make your bathroom look stylish and luxurious is through light fixtures. Consider adding fixtures that have a long neck so that they add the right amount of light to your mirror or cabinet. You can buy one that places the light bulb over and in front of the mirror. The fixtures cost as low as $20 and can go much higher.  You can consider adding the ones you like and splurge on them as they will last longer and will brighten up the space immediately.

Renovating the bathroom should not put you in debt. It is possible to remodel the space on a budget if you use the right tips and tricks. All you need to remember is never to go overboard and avoid doing major work. Minor updates to the bathroom will add value and it will not cost as much. You do not always have to get the best for the bathroom remodel so learn to compromise. Try to use recycled materials and handle the minor repairs before they get worse.
