Memory Books Made Easy – A Beginner’s Guide
In a world where everything around you is constantly documented but nothing is truly cherished or saved, you need to go the extra mile to really make sure you capture the true essence of the life you’ve lived. And that’s why memory books are more important than ever – not only do you get to look back on fond memories in the future, but you also get to pass this down to your children (and their children) as a family heirloom of memories.
If you’ve never created a memory book before, it can seem like a challenge, especially if you don’t know where to get started. That’s why we’ve given you all the steps in this article, right from what you need and how you can make your memory book stand out. Let’s get started!
1. Figure out what goes into the memory book
The first step is to collect and curate all your memories. This could include photographs, stamps, postcards, little sticky notes, polaroids, drawings you hang up on the fridge, and whatnot. The important thing is to make sure that you aren’t just collecting pictures – this would make it a regular photo album.
A memory book is more than that – it captures the essence of every phase of your family or life. You can even include small things you’ve saved over the years such as handwritten notes and chocolate wrappers from a loved one who meant a lot to you.
Once you’ve collected all the items that are to go into the memory book, you can then move onto the next step of creating one.
2. Choose your memory book
Some people go the traditional route of finding a memory book (or a scrapbook) at their local store or online. However, if you want yours to be customized for your life and memories, you can even go ahead and design a high quality memory book online and then get it printed in the material of your choice.
Some of the ways in which you can customize your memory book design is by adding colors of your choice, stickers which you love, quotes from poems or books that you feel deeply about and so on. These little touches will make your memory book stand out from any other store-bought book which aren’t customized to fit your memories and life’s story.
3. Plan your layout
Even if you don’t want your memory book to look perfect and want to add a touch of randomness to it, you still need to create a good layout template which you can follow – if not, it may end up looking messy and way more random than you intended it to be. To prevent this from happening, create a rough layout (either online or on a piece of paper) to understand how you’re going to structure each page.
For instance, you can plan what each page should contain – it could be two photographs, a note, some text, and an additional memory of some kind. Learning how this is going to be placed is what’s going to make your memory book look aesthetic as well.
4. Tell a story through it
Your memory book is not just a random book with photos on it – you’re essentially telling a story of your life through it. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do it in chronological order, but you can still tell a good story even if the order is a little out of the ordinary.
For instance, you could start with the present and then recount older memories as you go further down the book, or you could intertwine old memories with the new ones and continue the same pattern till the end of the book. This way, your book will not only hold all your memories but will also tell a good story with it.
