There is no denying the fact that running the family home is difficult. Everything is always chaotic as you juggle the children, the pets, the cooking, the cleaning, your work life and whatever else might come your way. As such, it is important for parents to design the family home with practicality in mind. This includes what sort of flooring you lay down.

We think that water-resistant laminate flooring is the perfect choice for family homes, for a variety of different reasons. If you’re feeling a little dubious and want to know what’s behind our thinking, then you should keep reading.

Low Maintenance

Like we said before, running the family home is no mean feat. With so much going on all the time, accidents are bound to happen. As such, parents need their home to be low maintenance. By this, we mean easy to clean and upkeep the appearance of.

Parents will be glad to hear that water-resistant laminate flooring is incredibly low maintenance. When spillages occur, the mess can be easily mopped up because the material is impermeable.

This also means your floors are less likely to stain. It’s also easy to whip out the dustpan and brush to clean up any crumbs. With such low maintenance flooring, parents can uphold the appearance of their household without worrying about stains.

More Hygienic

Believe it or not, carpets are very unhygienic. Going around your home with a carpet cleaner will very quickly highlight this. This is because carpet is a porous material, so it absorbs whatever is spilt onto it.

Eventually, this means bacteria cultures form within the fibres, putting your children at risk of developing a nasty illness. Dirt can also hide inside carpet.

Fortunately, the same can’t be said for waterproof laminate floors. Any muck is immediately visible on their surface. Also, as they are impermeable, bacteria struggle to accumulate. It’s easy enough to keep laminate flooring clean by simply mopping up every so often.

Non-Allergenic

Once again, carpet isn’t a good flooring option if your children suffer from allergies. The cottony fibres can trap things like dust mites and grass pollen. If your children are crawling around on the floor, they might breathe in these spores and have an unpleasant reaction.

Waterproof laminate flooring, on the other hand, has a completely smooth surface, so spores can’t get caught on them. As such, they are a great option for parents who have children that suffer from severe allergies or have breathing problems.

Safer Choice

Carpet is usually a popular choice for family homes because it is softer than most types of flooring. When you have growing children, who tend to fall over and hurt themselves quite a bit, it makes sense to install flooring which is cushiony. Other materials, like stone tiles and solid wood, can result in serious injury if a child hits their head on them.

However, as we discussed before, carpet isn’t necessarily the safest option overall, either. This brings us back to laminate flooring. This material is softer than most, having a cushiony underlay which absorbs impact. So, were your child to slip over on laminate, they would be much less likely to hurt themselves.

You are also less likely to smash plates on laminate flooring because the surface isn’t as hard as tile or wood. This is good for families with children crawling around their feet because there’s a smaller chance of them cutting themselves on sharp glass.

Very Durable

Finally, water-resistant laminate flooring is a highly durable material. For starters, it is almost completely impermeable, so there is a smaller chance of it warping and buckling because of water damage.

Secondly, it is usually coated with a protective gloss which also makes it scratch-resistant.

Thirdly, the underlay in laminate means it can absorb impact, making it perfect for areas where there is high foot traffic, such as the hall, stairs and landing. All these factors combine to make waterproof laminate floors very durable. The more durable the material, the longer it lasts whilst maintaining its beautiful appearance.

These are some of the main reasons why water-resistant laminate flooring is perfect for the family home. Parents definitely won’t regret their decision with this one.
